Conduct powerful Ecological Momentary Assessments (EMA) studies with our fun, flexible, user-friendly smartphone app
High-resolution data collection
Capture precise, real-time data across multiple dimensions, including health, environmental interactions, and location. This high-resolution data is critical for deep insights and impactful analysis in your research.
Fun, engaging & adaptive studies
Customisable studies
Leveraging data from wearables, health kits, and smartphone sensors. Integrate diverse data sources such as location, movement, and environmental factors to create studies that align precisely with your research goals.
Gain personal insights
Becoming a citizen scientist is a powerful way to understand how your environment and daily activities affect your wellbeing.
Contribute to research
Participate in open research projects or clinical trials that advance mental health science and promote healthier communities.
Join a community
By using Citizen Scientist, participants become part of a vibrant community. They participate in invitations and contribute to meaningful research.
Active data collection
Collected through participant input, such as logging experiences via their smartphones. Known as “Experience Sampling” or “Ecological Momentary Assessment,” this provides real-time insights into a participant’s mood, behaviours, and interactions with their environment.
Passive data collection
Automatically gathered through background monitoring, including steps, location, environmental factors (pollution, temperature, weather), and device data (Health Kits, GPS, other sensors). Known as “Personal Sensing” or “Digital Phenotyping,” this method captures comprehensive, long-term data with minimal participant effort.
Ethical review
All studies undergo rigorous ethical review, ensuring the highest standards of research integrity and participant protection. Each study receives full approval from our ethics committee before proceeding.
Data privacy and encryption
We prioritise data security. All information is anonymised and stored on secure AWS servers in London, protected by advanced 256-bit encryption to prevent unauthorised access.
Anonymity
Participant privacy is our default. We separate personal identifiable data from study data, ensuring participants' identities remain disconnected from their research contributions.
Compliance
We strictly adhere to GDPR and HIPAA standards. For clinical studies requiring identification, we use a secure Private ID token system, maintaining both compliance and confidentiality.
NatureBoost and the Citizen Scientist app were created as a collaboration between King’s College London, Nomad Projects, and That Product Studio, with support from Wellcome.
